On 3rd Sept, a young lad Dawa Tshering Bhutia an inhabitant from Pedong, Kalimpong was shot dead by the West Bengal police officials in Sadam, South Sikkim. As per the authentic sources the superintendent of police Mr. Pratap Pradhan – SP South Sikkim, mentioned that the West Bengal police officials had entered Sikkim in pretension of being tourist, later they arrested many GJM leaders and also in an encounter shot a youth.

When Sikkim police came to know they did not gave permission to the West Bengal Police to take the GJM leaders or supporters to custody, as West Bengal police officials did not had any official documents nor did had any arrest warrant with legal sanction to carry out this covert operation in Sikkim. For carrying out this operation, Sikkim police told the West Bengal police to get a courts order, if they want to move the arrested people to West Bengal. Meanwhile, Sikkim police have filed an FIR against those who had murdered Dawa Tshering Bhutia on act of cold blooded murder.

SP Pradhan mentioned with substantiating evidence which indicates that the youth was shot dead by Bengal Police officials. In substantiating this statement , while the Bengal police officials has claimed that they entered Sikkim in pursuits of those suspects , who names feature in the recent bomb blast which rocked the Darjeeling hills without any documents – arrest warrants.  Also it was found that these police officials from West Bengal has lied to the Sikkim border police that they were entering Sikkim to visit Ravangala and hand not revealed their original purpose. If they were chasing the fugitives wouldn’t they have informed their counterparts in Sikkim or Sikkim police to remain alert with a message regarding the fugitives whom they are looking for?

Sikkim is a very sensitive border region, how can anyone with guns and arms enter Sikkim? What if those who had entered were actually terrorist and not West Bengal police officials? Can officials from West Bengal force their way into Sikkim, without informing the local authority of Sikkim? What is the guarantee that all these arrested were arrested inside Sikkim? Could they have been smuggled into Sikkim to show Sikkim in bad light? If those arrested were criminals, why was there not a single court issued warrant to be found with the Bengal police officials? Why was permission from the Ministry of Home, Government of Sikkim not sought by the Bengal police or higher authorities? Can Bengal police run roughshod over Sikkim like this and kill anyone they choose?

The incident from today puts an question not only the territorial and political integrity of Sikkim, but also puts to question the national security risk that Sikkim faces from Bangladeshi terrorist, who can pose as West Bengal Police officials or officers and enter at their will and cause such disturbances in the most peaceful state of India. It is a high time that Government of Sikkim and people speak out against this blatant act of aggression by the ruling West Bengal Sarkar. This incident is slowly going to open the Pandora ’s Box of the Bengal Sarkar and the recent bomb blast which took place in the Darjeeling hills…………….
